Reading is one of the UKs top ten shopping destinations
The town of Reading grew between two great rivers - the Thames and Kennet - The Thames comes through the town just north of the town centre, on its way from Henley to Oxford. The Kennet flows through the heart of The Oracle Shopping and Leisure Complex and meanders past some of the most historic parts of the town centre. The Kennet also provides the source for the famous Kennet and Avon Canal, linking Reading with the sea at Bristol. Short cruises and boat hire are available a long either of the rivers. Canoeing jet-skiing, water-skiing and wind-surfing are available on the large purpose built lakes just outside of the centre.
The town boasts two impressive shopping centres, The Oracle and Broad Street Mall, and is also one of the few places where you can find the UK's top five retailers in one place: John Lewis, House of Fraser, Debenhams, Marks & Spencer and Primark are all situated within easy walking distance of each other.
The Oracle: Shopping and Leisure, is home to over 115 stores, including Mamas and Papas, The Disney Store, Hobbs, Karen Millen, Hotel Chocolat, Coast, Reiss and Jigsaw; as well as a host of restaurants, cafes and bars along situated along the Riverside.
